Here is the detail missing everywhere else: Viking Schumann was never a ship's official name. It was a marketing name Viking used for two seasons, in 2010 and 2011. On the register the ship was Clara Schumann from 1991 to 2017, then Lale Andersen, and since 2018 she has been MS De Amsterdam.

Why this confusion keeps coming back

On European rivers a line often charters a ship for a season or two and gives it a brand name for the duration of the contract. The vessel keeps its registration and its registered name. When the contract ends the brand name disappears from catalogues and the ship carries on under her real name. Nothing was sold, nothing was scrapped.

The ship

Built in 1991 in the Netherlands, ninety-four metres eighty long by eleven metres, drawing one metre. Fifty-six cabins, forty-eight doubles of eleven square metres and eight of fifteen, three decks, and no lift. A refit in 2010 and 2011 added eight French balcony suites.

These dimensions belong to the Elbe. The river runs without regulating barrages, its level sometimes drops far enough to hold a ship in place, and only hulls drawing one metre keep a full season there.
