Disney’s Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter

The most compact of the Moderate resorts

Cobblestone streets, gas lamps, wrought-iron balconies, magnolias. Port Orleans French Quarter rebuilds the Vieux Carré of New Orleans on tight ground, and that is its real advantage: from any building, the walk to the lobby, the pool or the bus stop takes a few minutes. Riverside next door stretches along the river; here, everything is within reach.

The pool is called Doubloon Lagoon and it runs on a Mardi Gras theme: King Neptune rides a sea serpent whose tongue serves as the waterslide, jazz-playing alligators spit water, and a hot tub completes it. The Mardi Grogs bar sits alongside. It is a single pool, without the secondary basins of the larger resorts, which goes with the size of the place.

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory serves over the counter morning, noon and night, Cajun and Creole cooking. Scat Cat's Club offers southern cocktails and jazz on some evenings, and the café beside it sells Mickey-shaped beignets, which have become a reason to come in themselves. For a table-service dinner, Boatwright's at Riverside is reached on foot along the riverside walk.

What to know about the rooms before booking

Rooms come with two queen beds for four, or one king bed for two. None of them goes to five. The fifth pull-down bed exists next door, in the Alligator Bayou section of Riverside, a few minutes' walk from here. A family of five set on the Vieux Carré theme should therefore look at Riverside and cross over for dinner, rather than book two rooms.

What a Disney property address gives you

Disney lists these benefits on its own page, and they deserve naming one by one, because most comparisons blur them together.

Early theme park entry. Thirty minutes ahead in all four parks, every day of the stay. The difference between riding two headline attractions and queueing ninety minutes for one.

Parking included. Standard parking at the theme parks, the water parks and the Disney Springs area costs nothing. Off property, it is paid every morning.

Lightning Lane seven days ahead. The general public buys them three days out. On the most sought-after attractions, four days of lead time change the shape of a trip, and it is the least known advantage of the lot.

Restaurants, the whole stay at once. Everyone books sixty days out. The difference is the block: from here you book the full length of the stay on day sixty, up to ten nights. A guest staying off property books one day at a time and arrives behind.

Disney transport. Buses, boats, monorail and the Disney Skyliner, at no charge. And MagicBand+ opens the room, enters the park and charges purchases to the folio.

Value, Moderate, Deluxe: what the words hide

Disney sorts its hotels into four families, and the gap between them is not only about luxury. A Value address gives plain rooms, a food court and buses. A Moderate adds a table-service restaurant, themed pools and more space. A Deluxe adds location — often walking distance or a monorail ride from a park — and extended evening hours. The Deluxe Villas add a kitchen and a laundry.

Everything else is identical: early entry, parking included, Lightning Lane at seven days, the dining booking block, Disney transport. A family choosing a Value does not give up the property benefits; it gives up space and distance.

Extended evening hours: what this category does not get

Disney reserves extended evening theme park hours for its Disney Deluxe Resorts and Disney Deluxe Villas, on select nights. The Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter is not among them.

Getting around from the hotel

A boat runs down the Sassagoula to Disney Springs and links Riverside next door. The four theme parks and the water parks are reached by bus. The size of the resort works in your favour on the morning departure: little walking to the stop, and one internal stop rather than a tour of a large property. Several addresses on the Disney property are being refurbished in stages: have your advisor confirm what is affected on your dates.

One thing to know whatever the hotel: delivery of park purchases to the room no longer exists. The service has not returned since 2020 and Disney no longer lists it among its benefits. Many Quebec listings still advertise it. What remains: pickup at the front of the park at the end of the day, or shipping home.

Who this hotel suits

This hotel suits the couple or the family of four that wants a carefully built setting, short on its legs, and a quick start in the morning. It suits anyone who likes jazz, beignets and streets that hold together. It suits less well the family of five, who should look at Riverside, and anyone after several pools and several restaurants on the same grounds.
