Disney Springs Hotels

Hotel Plaza Boulevard is a curiosity: a street of hotels that Disney does not run, but that sit on Disney land, five minutes' walk from Disney Springs. They carry the title of Official Walt Disney World Hotels, and that title brings real benefits a hotel out on Highway 192 will never have.

Seven hotels, one street, and a status Disney names itself

The Disney Springs area is Hotel Plaza Boulevard: seven hotels lined up along a single street, on Walt Disney World property but run by other chains. DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Orlando, Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando, Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace, Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista, Holiday Inn Orlando, Renaissance Orlando Resort and Spa and Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista.

Their position comes down to one sentence: Disney Springs is reached on foot, and the four parks by a shuttle that belongs to the area. More than a hundred and fifty shops, restaurants and entertainment venues within walking distance, on an evening when nobody wants to board anything again.

The advantage that sets them apart from the rest of the corridor

All seven appear on Disney's official list for 30-minute early entry, in all four parks, every day. It is the only Disney benefit an off-property hotel can carry, and it cannot be bought: it comes with the address.

A Good Neighbor label does not grant it. Dozens of hotels in the region carry that label without a single minute of head start. If early entry matters to you, your choice is made here or among the handful of other addresses Disney also names.

What really separates the seven

They share the address, the shuttle and early entry. Everything else diverges, and that is where your stay is decided.

DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Orlando is the only all-suite property: a closed bedroom and a separate living room, which changes the evenings when the children go to bed before the parents.

Drury Plaza Hotel Orlando charges for parking, unlike several of its neighbours. In exchange, its evening spread and included breakfast settle two meals a day.

Renaissance Orlando Resort and Spa went by B Resort & Spa until its renovation. Its rooms often run past 37 square metres and some of them have bunk beds, which houses a family of five in one room.

Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace and Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista play the large-resort card, with a spa and pools.

Holiday Inn Orlando and Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista hold the lower end of the street: less space, fewer services, the same early entry.

The two points to pin down before booking

Parking. It is not handled the same way from one hotel on the boulevard to the next, and over a week the gap sometimes exceeds the difference in room rate. For a family driving down from Quebec, it is the first line to check.

Daily fees. Several of these hotels add a mandatory line that does not appear in the advertised rate and that sometimes carries the shuttle or the wifi. Ask for the all-in price, not the room price.

This area or a Disney hotel: the real trade-off

Staying with Disney adds extended evening hours in the Deluxe categories, the dining booking block for the whole stay at once, the seven-day Lightning Lane window, parking included at the parks and Disney transport in all its forms. Hotel Plaza Boulevard gives early entry and nothing else on that list.

In exchange it gives Disney Springs on foot and hotel brands where your points accumulate. The trade-off is made on those two columns, not on the label.

An official hotel in the Disney Springs area puts you on Disney land without being in a Disney hotel. It is a trade-off, not a discount in disguise: your advisor will tell you which of the two scenarios holds up on your dates.
