Disney Deluxe Villas Hotels

The Deluxe Villas are Disney's answer to a simple question: what do you do when you are staying ten days, there are six of you, and nobody wants to eat breakfast in a restaurant every morning. A kitchen, a washer, a living room, and the same benefits as the Deluxe hotels.

Thirteen addresses, and one thing the hotels do not give

Disney Vacation Club villas carry every benefit of the Deluxe category, extended evening hours included, and they add what no hotel room has: a kitchen and a laundry inside the unit.

Studios have a kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. From one bedroom up, the kitchen is full — range, dishwasher, dishes — and the washer and dryer are in the unit. For a family coming down from Quebec for ten days, that means breakfast at the table rather than in a queue, and one suitcase less.

Two things to know before booking for cash

Housekeeping. In a Disney Vacation Club villa it is not done daily as in a hotel room, and the arrangement depends on the type of booking and the length of stay. It is the most common surprise for a guest who has never stayed in a villa. Have it spelled out before you confirm.

Availability. These units go first to club members, and the nights offered for cash come out sparingly. Booking early is worth more here than anywhere else on the property.

The sizes, from studio to grand villa

Studios sleep four or five depending on the address. One-bedroom villas run from four to five. Two-bedroom villas reach eight or nine. And three-bedroom grand villas sleep twelve, with three or four bathrooms.

One quirk of the network is worth knowing: at several addresses the studio sleeps more people than the one-bedroom villa — five against four. A family of five that wants a full kitchen therefore has to aim at the two-bedroom villa, or accept the studio's kitchenette. That is the kind of trade-off an advisor settles in thirty seconds and a booking engine never flags.

The units that exist nowhere else

Four categories stand apart and are worth the trip for an occasion.

The Polynesian bungalows, on stilts above Seven Seas Lagoon: eight occupants, private deck, plunge pool, a direct view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks.

The Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs: real wooden houses raised three metres off the ground in woodland, three bedrooms, nine occupants, bunk beds, a charcoal grill.

The Copper Creek cabins, on the shore of Bay Lake: eight occupants, two bathrooms, a hot tub on the deck.

The Island Tower Duo Studios at the Polynesian: a unit for two people only, a rare category on the property for a couple.

All of them are few in number and book far in advance.

Where they sit, and what that changes

Most are grafted onto a Deluxe hotel and share its restaurants, pools and transport. Bay Lake Tower is linked to the Contemporary by a bridge, and so to Magic Kingdom Park on foot. The Crescent Lake villas — BoardWalk Villas, Beach Club Villas — reach EPCOT on foot. Boulder Ridge and Copper Creek share the Wilderness Lodge boat. Kidani Village and Jambo House look onto the savannas of Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Two addresses stand alone: Saratoga Springs, within walking distance of Disney Springs, and Old Key West, the first resort in the network, opened in 1991, whose units run larger than average and whose studio sleeps four with two real queen beds.

Who the villa is worth it for

It is worth it for the long stay, for the extended family of nine or twelve, and for people who cook. It is worth it too for the traveller who counts bathrooms: at nine occupants, three bathrooms change the morning more than any decor.

It is worth it less for four nights of eating out every evening. In that case the neighbouring Deluxe hotel gives the same Disney benefits, the same position, and housekeeping every day.

The benefits are the Deluxe benefits

All thirteen villa resorts qualify for extended evening hours, those two extra hours in a park after it closes to everyone else, on certain nights of the week. Add thirty minutes of early entry into all four parks every day, free Disney transportation, free parking, and dining reservations sixty days ahead for the whole stay.

Location follows the hotel the villas are attached to. Bay Lake Tower and the Grand Floridian Villas walk to Magic Kingdom. The Beach Club Villas and the BoardWalk Villas walk to EPCOT. The Riviera is on the Skyliner. Old Key West and Saratoga Springs take the boat down to Disney Springs.

You do not need to be a member

This is the most common misunderstanding about the category. These resorts belong to the Disney Vacation Club, Disney's timeshare programme, but the units that are available rent like any other hotel room, by the night, with no membership and no commitment. Your advisor books them exactly like the rest.
