Disney's Riviera Resort

Disney’s Riviera Resort opened in December 2019, along the water that separates Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort from EPCOT. Disney conceived it as a tribute to the European Riviera as Walt and Lillian Disney travelled it: ochre terraces, mosaics, bougainvillea. It is a Deluxe Villa address, and a Disney Vacation Club property.

The Disney Skyliner, and what it actually serves

The Riviera station is built into the hotel. That is this address’s main argument, and it is also where agency listings most often go wrong.

The Disney Skyliner reaches EPCOT directly, arriving at the International Gateway entrance at the back of the park. Getting to Disney’s Hollywood Studios requires a transfer at the Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort station. The network has six stations in all, and it serves only those two parks.

For Magic Kingdom Park and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, it is the bus, without exception. No monorail, no boat, and no park within walking distance of the Riviera. A guest who picks this address expecting to glide everywhere will be disappointed two mornings out of four, so it is better said in advance.

Worth noting for winter travel: Disney has announced that the Disney Skyliner will close from 24 to 30 January 2027 for refurbishment, with complimentary bus service in its place.

The Tower Studio, unique to the Riviera

About three hundred villas, in five formats. The smallest exists nowhere else at Disney: the Tower Studio, 255 square feet, roughly 24 square metres, with a queen Murphy bed and a shower. It sleeps two. For a couple who plan to spend their days in the parks, it is the most compact way into the Deluxe range.

Above it come the Deluxe Studio at 423 square feet for five with its kitchenette, the one-bedroom villa at 813 square feet for five, the two-bedroom villa for nine or ten depending on configuration, and the three-bedroom Grand Villa at about 2,530 square feet for twelve. From one bedroom up, every unit has a full kitchen and a washer and dryer.

Topolino’s Terrace and the three other tables

Topolino’s Terrace sits on the roof and serves French- and Italian-influenced cooking. In the morning it hosts the Breakfast à la Art character meal, where Mickey and his friends come through in artists’ dress. In the evening the room looks out on the fireworks of EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Primo Piatto serves at the counter from morning to night, with food to take away. Le Petit Café has the feel of a Parisian room: pastries and specialty coffee by day, bar service in the evening. Bar Riva rounds it out by the pool.

The pools and the rest

The Riviera Pool carries the slide and the activity. Beside it, S’il Vous Play offers a Fantasia-themed splash area. Beau Soleil Pool stays the quiet one. The Athlétique Fitness Center completes the list.

In the evening, films are screened outdoors and a campfire is lit with marshmallows. The Art de la Mosaïque workshop picks up the hotel’s decorative motif. The Riviera has no beach, no spa and no children’s club: it is a villa address rather than a full resort village.

The benefits of staying at a Disney hotel

Early entry of thirty minutes, at all four theme parks, every day of the stay. Extended evening hours, reserved for Disney Deluxe Resorts and Disney Deluxe Villas, of which the Riviera is one: Disney confirms the benefit through 2027, and the park calendar shifts through the year.

The seven-day window to buy Lightning Lane passes, against three days for the general public, opening at seven in the morning Eastern time. Dining reservations sixty days ahead for the whole stay. Charging to the room through the band, which also opens the door and serves as park admission. Standard theme park parking included.

One detail that prevents a disappointment: delivery of park purchases to the room has not been restored since 2020. What remains is pickup at the front of the park and shipping home.

Who the Riviera suits

It suits travellers who want EPCOT at the end of a Disney Skyliner cabin and who like coming back to the hotel for dinner. It suits families who need a kitchen and a washer. It suits less anyone who puts Magic Kingdom Park at the centre of the trip, because the bus is the only way there.
