Houses in the trees, three metres off the ground

Start with what almost nobody knows. Saratoga Springs holds the Treehouse Villas: real wooden houses raised on stilts about three metres off the ground, set apart in woodland beside a canal. Three bedrooms, nine occupants, bunk beds, a full kitchen, a private deck and a charcoal grill. It has nothing to do with a hotel, and it books far ahead.

The rest of the resort takes up the spa town of Saratoga Springs, in New York State, as it was at the end of the nineteenth century: Victorian buildings, verandas, a racehorse theme. The grounds run along the Lake Buena Vista golf course and stretch down to the water.

Two main pools. The Paddock, with a slide of about forty-five metres and two small slides for children. High Rock Spring, with its waterfalls, a slide set into the rock and a Donald-themed play area. Three quiet pools are added. A full spa and a fitness centre complete it, which is where the name comes from.

Disney Springs across the water

That is the other argument for this address. Disney Springs is reached on foot, by footbridge, or by boat from the resort dock. Having dinner, shopping or spending an evening without taking a bus or hunting for parking changes the value of a ten-day stay. The boat also serves Old Key West and the two Port Orleans resorts, but the footbridge belongs to Saratoga Springs.

How many people, and in what

Studios sleep four, with a kitchenette. One-bedroom villas sleep five, two-bedroom villas nine, the three-bedroom grand villa twelve, and the Treehouse Villas nine. Every category from one bedroom up has a full kitchen, a washer and a dryer. The resort is large and cut into sections: ask for a building close to the Carriage House if you want to walk as little as possible.

What a Disney Vacation Club villa changes

A villa is not a larger hotel room. It is a home. Studios add a kitchenette with refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. One-bedroom villas and larger add a full kitchen with range, dishwasher and dishes, plus a washer and dryer inside the unit. For a family coming down from Quebec for ten days, that means breakfast at the table rather than in a queue, and one suitcase less.

Two things deserve spelling out before booking. Housekeeping first: in a Disney Vacation Club villa it is not done daily as in a hotel room, and the arrangement depends on the type of booking and the length of stay. Have your advisor confirm it. Then availability: these units go first to club members, and the nights offered for cash come out sparingly. Booking early is worth more here than anywhere else on the property.

What a Disney property address gives you

Disney lists these benefits on its own page, and they deserve naming one by one, because most comparisons blur them together.

Early theme park entry. Thirty minutes ahead in all four parks, every day of the stay. The difference between riding two headline attractions and queueing ninety minutes for one.

Parking included. Standard parking at the theme parks, the water parks and the Disney Springs area costs nothing. Off property, it is paid every morning.

Lightning Lane seven days ahead. The general public buys them three days out. On the most sought-after attractions, four days of lead time change the shape of a trip, and it is the least known advantage of the lot.

Restaurants, the whole stay at once. Everyone books sixty days out. The difference is the block: from here you book the full length of the stay on day sixty, up to ten nights. A guest staying off property books one day at a time and arrives behind.

Disney transport. Buses, boats, monorail and the Disney Skyliner, at no charge. And MagicBand+ opens the room, enters the park and charges purchases to the folio.

Extended evening hours, the advantage that shows least and is worth most

Disney reserves extended evening theme park hours for its Disney Deluxe Resorts and Disney Deluxe Villas, on select nights. The Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa is among them.

In practice: the park closes to the public and you stay in it. Queues collapse, photographs become possible, and attractions that wanted ninety minutes at three in the afternoon follow one another in twenty. It is the benefit that best justifies the gap with a lower category, and almost nobody sells it properly.

Getting around from the hotel

Disney Springs is reached on foot by footbridge or by boat from the dock. The four theme parks and the water parks are reached by bus. The Lake Buena Vista golf course borders the grounds. The resort is spread out and divided into sections, with internal bus stops: allow a few extra minutes in the morning depending on the building assigned. The Treehouse Villas have their own stop, apart from the rest. Disney posts refurbishment under way, with no published schedule.

One thing to know whatever the hotel: delivery of park purchases to the room no longer exists. The service has not returned since 2020 and Disney no longer lists it among its benefits. Many Quebec listings still advertise it. What remains: pickup at the front of the park at the end of the day, or shipping home.

Who this hotel suits

This resort suits groups of nine or twelve, extended families and long stays where people cook. It suits anyone who wants Disney Springs within walking distance, anyone who plays golf, and anyone after a quiet address rather than a setting to photograph. The Treehouse Villas suit two families travelling together. It suits less well anyone whose priority is the parks: every park is reached here by bus, without exception.
