The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort

The cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort are no longer the ones you may remember. The old log structures were demolished and replaced, one by one, with new cabins built on the same footprint. The first opened on 1 July 2024. In the same move, the address changed category: Disney now files it among Deluxe Villas and made it the seventeenth Disney Vacation Club property.

What actually changed

The difference shows at the door. The small windows of old have given way to full-height glass, and the interior has lost its dark woodwork. The decoration stages Chip and Dale, with nods to the 1938 short Mickey’s Trailer and to the Junior Woodchucks.

A queen Murphy bed has been added in the living area, which the previous layout did not have. The cabin sleeps up to six, in a single format: there is no studio and no upper category here, which makes the choice simple.

Watch for a common confusion: the cabins and the campsites are two distinct addresses. The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort remains a campground, with its own rules and its own benefits.

A full kitchen, a porch, a barbecue

Every cabin has a full kitchen: refrigerator, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and a table for six. Outside, a private porch with a charcoal grill, plus an electric vehicle charging station.

Two absences to know before booking, because they surprise anyone comparing with other Deluxe Villas: the cabin has no washer and dryer, shared laundries are spread around the site, and it has a single full bathroom with a separate vanity area.

Transport, and the real time to the parks

The boat links Magic Kingdom Park, and also Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Contemporary Resort. For EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, it is the bus. No monorail, no Disney Skyliner, no park within walking distance.

Here is the point we would rather state in advance than hear about afterwards. The site is vast, and from a cabin door you first take an internal bus to the boat landing or the departure point, before boarding the boat or bus that goes to the park. Door to door, figure forty-five to seventy-five minutes depending on the park and the hour. Renting a golf cart, available on site in four- and six-seat versions, changes that arithmetic completely. It is the first piece of advice to give anyone booking here.

Eating and filling the day on site

Trail’s End Restaurant reopened reimagined in July 2023 and now works as a market counter rather than a buffet: Southern comfort cooking, family-size dishes to take away or individual portions on site. Crockett’s Tavern became a frontier-inspired lounge, with indoor and outdoor seating. The Chuck Wagon food truck and the Meadow Snack Bar by the pool complete the list.

At Pioneer Hall, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue has been running since 1974: an all-you-care-to-enjoy dinner show with the Pioneer Hall Players. It books far ahead.

The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool carries the slide, the Wilderness Swimmin’ Pool stays quiet with its whirlpool. Around them: trails, canoeing, kayaking, catch-and-release fishing, archery, horseback riding, pony rides, carriage rides and campfires. It is the address closest to nature in the whole resort.

The benefits of staying at a Disney hotel

Early entry of thirty minutes, at all four theme parks, every day of the stay. Extended evening hours, reserved for Disney Deluxe Resorts and Disney Deluxe Villas. One detail matters here: Disney writes that this benefit applies to the Disney Vacation Club cabins only, not to the campsites. Disney confirms the benefit through 2027.

The seven-day window to buy Lightning Lane passes, against three days for the general public. Dining reservations sixty days ahead for the whole stay. Charging to the room through the band. Standard theme park parking included.

Delivery of park purchases to the room has not been restored since 2020. What remains is pickup at the front of the park and shipping home.

Who the cabins suit

They suit families who want to cook, spread out and end the day around a fire rather than in a hotel corridor. They suit travellers who come by car. They suit less anyone who wants to string four parks together in four days without renting a cart.
