Universal's Endless Summer Resort – Dockside & Surfside Inn and Suites

Endless Summer Resort brings together two sister hotels rather than one: Surfside Inn and Suites, opened on 27 June 2019, and Dockside Inn and Suites, opened on 15 December 2020. Both sit on International Drive, detached from the core of Universal Orlando Resort, and both are built around the same idea: a family suite with three queen beds for six people, on a site where most hotels offer you four.

Two addresses, two scales

Surfside is the smaller and quieter of the pair, with 750 rooms including 390 two-bedroom suites, a pool shaped like a surfboard and a splash pad. Dining fits into Beach Break Cafe, a self-service food court covering all three meals, plus the poolside Sand Bar, which serves drinks only, and a Starbucks counter. Pizza delivery to the room runs seven days a week.

Dockside is the other extreme: 2,050 rooms including 1,059 two-bedroom suites, two pools, a splash pad, the Pier 8 Market and its five counters, two pool bars, the Sunset Lounge in the lobby and a Starbucks. A hotel that size has more movement in it, which some travellers like and others avoid.

The family suite, the real reason to come here

The two-bedroom suite runs about 41 m² with three queen beds, a bathroom with double vanity, a second separate toilet, and a kitchenette with small refrigerator, microwave, sink and coffee maker. Six people sleep in real beds, with no sofa bed and no rollaway to negotiate.

A standard room, at about 29 m², sleeps four in two queen beds. Worth knowing: the kitchenette has no stove and no dishwasher. It handles breakfast, snacks and bottles rather than dinner.

What your room key gives you

Early Park Admission, up to one hour before official opening, at whichever park Universal designates for that date. Added to that are free transport to all four parks, delivery of in-park purchases back to the hotel and charging privileges across the resort. No Universal Orlando hotel charges a resort fee, which sets the property apart from many Orlando competitors.

Free Universal Express Unlimited stays limited to Loews Portofino Bay, Hard Rock and Loews Royal Pacific. Endless Summer belongs to the Value Inns and Suites category and does not qualify. You will sometimes see "Universal Express" listed on agency pages for these two hotels: that means only that express access can be bought there, never that it is included.

Getting to the parks

Here is the point to face squarely before booking. These two hotels are the only ones at the resort with no walking path and no water taxi to the parks. Everything goes through the bus, which leaves roughly every fifteen minutes, from an hour before early entry until two in the morning, with a dedicated shuttle to Epic Universe and another to Volcano Bay.

The service works well in the morning. On the return at closing time, the bus queue stretches out, and that is the most consistent complaint about both addresses. A family with young children does well to leave the park slightly ahead of the crowd, or to plan on twenty minutes of patience.

Who these hotels suit

They suit families of five or six who want three real beds and a kitchenette, and travellers who accept the bus ride as the trade-off. They also suit a long stay, where the kitchenette and the bed count matter more than the walking distance.

They suit you less if you travel with a pet, since neither hotel accepts them, if included express access matters to you, or if you return to the hotel for a midday nap: the ride eats the time you save.
