Fantasy Island is rebuilding, and we would rather tell you before you book.

A fire reached the resort on 2 March 2026. Part of the accommodation and several common areas were destroyed. The dive centre was spared, and that is precisely what has always made this address what it is.

The hotel has said it intends to resume operations as soon as possible, without giving a date. Where to stay on Roatán right now

Let us start with the useful part, since it is probably what brought you here.

Infinity Bay Spa and Beach Resort sits on West Bay, the beach everyone comes to see. Suites with full kitchens, an infinity pool facing the reef, and the drop-off a few strokes offshore. This is the address to hold if you want the white sand with the convenience of an apartment.

Mayan Princess Beach and Dive Resort is on the same beach, all-inclusive, with one- and two-bedroom apartments. A good middle ground for a family that wants to cook now and then without giving up included meals.

Turquoise Bay Dive and Beach Resort is on the other side of the island, on the north shore, away from the cruise ships. The reef starts in front of the hotel. Travellers who come to Roatán to dive first find the spirit of Fantasy Island here.

Paradise Beach Hotel and Henry Morgan Resort round out West Bay, and Media Luna Resort and Spa offers a quieter setting over at Caribe Point.

What the fire reached, and what it spared

Let us be precise, because the versions in circulation rarely are. The fire of 2 March 2026 destroyed thirty-six of the one hundred and eight rooms, along with the lobby, reception, the main restaurant, the kitchen, three bars, the nightclub and the conference space.

The dive centre was untouched. So were the water facilities. On a property whose whole reason for being has always been the reef, that is not a small detail.

The private island, which was the difference

Fantasy Island occupies a private twenty-one-acre island linked to Roatán by a causeway, off French Harbour. That layout gave the hotel its character: one property on one island, paths under mango trees, agoutis and parrots running loose, and a reef you reach from the dock without boarding a boat.

Geography does not burn. It will still be there when the resort reopens, and it is the reason the owners announced they intend to come back.

Roatán does not rest on one hotel

The island sits on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second largest in the world after Australia's. The West End wall drops to forty metres less than a hundred metres from shore, and visibility regularly passes thirty metres.

This is a place where certification takes four days at a fraction of what it costs elsewhere, where wild dolphins pass off Bailey's Key, and where the sand at West Bay stands comparison with any beach in the Caribbean. One resort rebuilding changes none of that.

If Roatán no longer suits your trip
