Margaritaville Beach Resort Grand Cayman closed in 2020 and never reopened. This page stays online for a simple reason: travellers still look for it, and several sites still sell it.

The good news is about the land. In October 2025 the Cayman planning authority approved a ten-storey, 316-room Hyatt Centric on the same site, on West Bay Road. The location you were interested in is coming back, and bigger.

Where to stay on Seven Mile Beach right now

Three hotels hold the sand that made the island's name, and they cover three different budgets.

Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort has just finished a major beach restoration, completed in early September 2026: resanding, anti-erosion structures and coral protection. It added the word "Beach" to its name to mark the occasion.

The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach holds one of the longest beach frontages on the island, with an infinity pool that opens straight onto the water.

The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman spreads across both sides of West Bay Road, linked by a bridge, and remains the island's reference for a stay without compromise.

What is replacing Margaritaville on West Bay Road

The resort closed during the pandemic and the building sat empty for several years. In October 2025 the Central Planning Authority approved the project that replaces it: a ten-storey Hyatt Centric with 316 rooms.

No opening date has been made public, and we will tell you when one is. Until then, know that no real inventory exists at this address: what still circulates with some resellers comes from listings that were never taken down.

The other parts of the island, which are worth the detour

Grand Cayman is not only Seven Mile Beach, and the best value is often found elsewhere.

At Crystal Harbour, on the North Sound, Holiday Inn Resort Grand Cayman and Grand Caymanian Resort are immediate neighbours on six and a half acres of waterfront, with their own beach. They share a free shuttle serving Seven Mile Beach, George Town, Camana Bay and the supermarket, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday. You get the famous beach without paying its rate.

At East End, about forty minutes from George Town, The Reef Beach Resort lines up 1,600 feet of waterfront well away from traffic. It is the only one of the seven with a classic swimming beach outside Seven Mile Beach.

And The Sunshine Hotel and Suites sits a few minutes' walk from Seven Mile Beach without being on the sand, which changes a great deal when you come to compare.

Grand Cayman earns the trip for what lies underwater

The island sits on a wall that drops past a thousand metres within a few hundred metres of shore. North Wall and the chimneys of Devil's Grotto draw divers from around the world, and the Kittiwake wreck rests in seventeen metres of water, shallow enough for snorkellers to make out its structure from the surface.

Stingray City remains the signature excursion: a sandbar in the middle of the North Sound where the water comes to your waist and the rays come to you. Add Crystal Caves, the blue iguanas at the Queen Elizabeth II reserve and a day at Rum Point, and the week fills itself.

Two details an advisor checks and comparison sites forget

First, Wi-Fi is not free everywhere, not even at the big chains. At the Grand Cayman Marriott, free in-room access is reserved for Bonvoy members who book direct. Sites that look convincingly like the hotel's own claim otherwise: those are third-party resellers.

Second, several hotels on the island charge a mandatory resort fee per room per night, covering Wi-Fi, parking and sometimes valet. That fee never appears in the price shown online.
