Why this address stands apart in Bermuda
Bermuda has plenty of charm and plenty of good seafront addresses. New construction is another matter. The St. Regis opened in 2021 on the eastern tip of the island, and it remains the only luxury resort built from the ground up here in decades.
It shows everywhere. Bathrooms are large and modern, the air conditioning works, outlets sit where you reach for them, and the public spaces were designed around the light. For a traveller who has been let down by a tired five-star elsewhere, that carries real weight.
The resort is rated Recommended by the Forbes Travel Guide 2026 and holds Green Key certification for its environmental management. It occupies a historic site at the foot of Fort St. Catherine, with the beach of the same name in front of it.
St. Catherine's Beach and the pools
St. Catherine's Beach is a pale sand cove framed by the fort, right on the property. The water is usually calm and the bottom shelves gently. It is a sheltered bay beach rather than a wide stretch open to the Atlantic.
Two infinity pools look out over the sea. One is reserved for adults, the other welcomes families, and a whirlpool rounds them out. Private cabanas can be booked by the day with food and drink served at your lounger, and they go quickly in high season: your advisor can secure one on your file before you arrive.
For the wide pink sand beaches of the south shore, Horseshoe Bay among them, plan a day out. They sit at the other end of the island. What you gain here is a quiet beach shared with a hundred people rather than with tour coaches.
Which room to choose at the St. Regis
The resort holds 120 rooms and suites, a deliberately small format for the category. Every unit has a private balcony, and that means every single one, which is far from always the case elsewhere.
Categories run from garden view to partial ocean view to full ocean view. The 21 suites add separate living space, and the largest open straight onto the sea. The gap between a garden view and an ocean view is worth discussing: over five nights, with a balcony facing the water, most guests find the difference justified.
The resort sets a minimum check-in age of 18. A young adult travelling alone needs to have turned 18, a detail that matters for a graduation trip.
What the St. Regis butler actually does
The St. Regis brand dates to 1904 and its butler service goes back to the opening of the first hotel by John Jacob Astor IV. In Bermuda the service comes with every room, at no extra charge and regardless of category.
Day to day that means two garments pressed on arrival, coffee or tea delivered at the hour you choose, packing and unpacking if you want it, restaurant reservations and excursions arranged, and one person reachable at any time rather than a switchboard.
Guests write about it often, and not out of snobbery: on an island where visitors cannot rent a car and taxis are booked ahead, having someone handle the logistics while you are on the beach genuinely changes the shape of the stay.
Eating and drinking on site
Three venues on the property, a deliberate number rather than a shortfall.
Lina serves coastal Mediterranean cooking all day, built around the catch and local produce. Breakfast happens here, and the room faces the water.
BLT Steak is the evening table, a modern steakhouse whose reputation runs beyond the hotel: Bermudians come here for dinner. The popovers served to start are part of the house ritual.
The St. Regis Bar carries the brand tradition of a signature cocktail unique to each hotel. Here it is the Gates Bay Mary, a local turn on the Bloody Mary, whose earliest ancestor was created at the St. Regis in New York. The sunset champagne sabering ritual takes place here as well.
Dining is à la carte, with no all-inclusive plan. That is the norm in Bermuda and in this category. A meal plan can be added to the booking: ask your advisor to compare the options against the number of evenings you expect to stay in.
Five Forts golf, on the property
Five Forts Golf Club occupies the land immediately behind the hotel. Eighteen holes, roughly 4,056 metres, a short but hilly course that follows the coast under the gaze of several historic fortifications, which is where the name comes from.
Carts are GPS-equipped. The course was entirely redesigned when the resort opened, and its clifftop setting makes it one of the most photographed on the island. For a golfer, staying on the course in Bermuda is a rare luxury: you play at sunrise and you are back at the pool before the family wakes up.
The spa and fitness
The St. Regis Spa works with Sothys, a French professional skincare house. Single and couples treatment rooms, a steam room, and a menu built around massage and facials.
The fitness centre is open 24 hours with current cardio and strength equipment. Yoga classes run on the terrace seasonally.
Getting to Bermuda from Canada
A non-stop flight links Montreal to Bermuda, but the window has tightened and departures number a handful a week, seasonally. Outside those departures you connect, usually through Toronto or the US east coast.

L.F. Wade International Airport is about ten minutes from the St. Regis, which puts this hotel among the closest to arrivals. Your butler can arrange the transfer in advance.
When to go, and what the sea is really like
Here is the point that surprises Canadians most: Bermuda is not a winter sun destination.
The archipelago lies in the North Atlantic, roughly a thousand kilometres off the coast of North Carolina. The Gulf Stream softens the climate without making it tropical. From November through March, highs sit around 20 to 22 degrees and the sea drops to 19 or 20. That is pleasant for walking, for golf and for sightseeing, far less so for spending the day in the water.
Swimming becomes comfortable from June through October, and the sea peaks near 27 degrees in August. Hurricane season runs June to November with the peak from August to October. At this latitude storms lose intensity, but they still bring wind and rain, and cancellation coverage earns its place during that stretch.
April and May are the driest months of the year. For a stay built around golf, the spa, the table and sightseeing, with sun and without heavy heat, that is the finest window Bermuda offers, and it is precisely the kind of stay this address serves best.
Getting around without a car
Visitors cannot rent cars in Bermuda. It is a long-standing government rule, adopted to protect the character of the island and its narrow roads, and it admits no exceptions.
What remains: public buses, pink on the main routes and blue on local lines, ferries linking Hamilton, the Dockyard and St. George's, metered taxis at regulated rates, 50cc scooters that require no motorcycle licence, electric minicars restricted to drivers 25 and over, and bicycles. Multi-day passes cover buses and ferries together.
The island covers about 54 square kilometres and nothing is more than about ninety minutes away by bus. The St. Regis sits in the east, right beside St. George's, about an hour from Hamilton. Here the butler and the concierge handle transfers and taxis, which takes most of the sting out of the constraint.
What is there to do around the St. Regis?
Bermuda's east end is the oldest and most history-dense part of the archipelago, and the hotel sits right in it. You walk out of the property and you are already in the scenery.
St. George's, a World Heritage Site
Founded in 1612, St. George's is the oldest continuously inhabited English town in the Americas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Narrow lanes, lime-washed stone houses, St. Peter's Church, King's Square and the fortifications. Allow half a day, more if you go into the museums. The centre is minutes from the hotel.
Fort St. Catherine, at the hotel's door
The fort stands above the beach and is open to visit. Begun in 1614 and reworked into the 19th century, it holds a museum, cannon in position, and a view that explains on its own why the British fortified this headland. It is the easiest end-of-day walk of the trip.
Tobacco Bay and nearby beaches
Tobacco Bay, a few minutes away, offers dramatic rock formations and clear water: it ranks among the best shore snorkelling on the island. A beach bar serves drinks and rents gear. Shelly Bay, further west, is shallow and calm and popular with Bermudian families.
Travelling as a family at the St. Regis
The resort welcomes families and runs a children's club with supervised activities. The family pool, the sheltered beach and the gently shelving bottom suit younger children well.
That said, the hotel keeps a grown-up atmosphere: an adults-only pool, a hushed evening table, and a stay built around the spa, golf and dining. For a trip centred on children with activity from morning to night and meals included, an all-inclusive address on the island serves the need better, and your advisor will put one forward. For a family looking for calm and polish, the St. Regis is very well placed.
Who it suits
It suits a couple who want new construction and real service, an anniversary or honeymoon, a golfer, a history traveller who wants St. George's on foot, and anyone coming to Bermuda in April, May or the autumn rather than the height of summer.

What to know before you book
Three reservations recur in the reviews, and all three are settled before departure.
The first is location: the hotel sits in the east, well away from Hamilton and from the big south shore beaches. If your plan is to move every day, the concierge becomes your best ally and transfers get planned on the file.
The second is dining: three venues on site and limited choice over a long stay. Across seven nights, plan on dinners out in St. George's and Hamilton, which is part of the pleasure of the trip anyway.
The third is the beach: lovely and sheltered, and modest in scale. Guests who know that going in find it charming. Guests expecting Horseshoe Bay are surprised.
