Baha Mar is the biggest hotel bet ever made in the Bahamas, and the Grand Hyatt sits at its centre, between the SLS and the Rosewood. More than eighteen hundred rooms and suites, six pools, a casino, a golf course, a fifteen-acre water park included in the rate, and over forty-five places to eat and drink.

The scale is both its argument and its limit. Nobody gets bored here. Nobody is alone here either. And since nothing beyond the room and the park is included, the daily budget weighs more than the posted rate, which is precisely what unhappy travellers hold against the property.

Baha Bay, the trump card

Unlimited access to the Baha Bay water park comes with the room, and that is what truly separates this address from its Cable Beach neighbours. Fifteen acres of slides, pools and rivers, adjacent to the resort. The hotel's six tropical pools add to it, each with bookable cabanas.

One scheduling detail worth knowing: pools and park close at sunset. Evenings therefore happen at the casino, in the restaurants or beside the beach, not in the water.

A straightforward beach and a city nearby

Access to Cable Beach is direct, on white sand, with water that stays generally calm on the island's north side. Lynden Pindling airport sits under ten kilometres away, making the Grand Hyatt one of the shortest transfers in Nassau. Downtown and the cruise port are about fifteen minutes by road.

Forty-five tables, and what that means for the bill

The list is dizzying. On the fine dining side: Marcus at Baha Mar Fish and Chop House from Marcus Samuelsson, Leola from Scott Conant, Daniel Boulud's Café Boulud, Carna from Dario Cecchini, Katsuya by Starck and Shuang Ba for regional Chinese. On the casual side: Regatta for the international buffet, Costa for coastal Mexican, Cleo for the Mediterranean, Cinko for Asian-Latin fusion, a pizza lab, a noodle bar, a taco truck and a Hawaiian poke counter. On the bar side: Jon Batiste's jazz club, a rum and cigar room, a rooftop bar, a speakeasy, a champagne library.

All of it runs à la carte. The hotel is European plan, without exception. Add an automatic service charge applied to consumption and you get guests' main grievance: the daily bill runs well past what they expected. That is not a criticism of the hotel, it is a structural fact. The categories, from simple to enormous

Standard rooms run roughly thirty-five to forty-two square metres, with a king bed or two queens, a fountain or ocean view, a French balconette and a rain shower. The Deluxe rooms in the east tower add an upgraded bathroom.

The Reserve is an enclave within the hotel: private check-in, dedicated lounge, rooms overlooking the fountains. It is the option to keep in mind for anyone who dreads crowds, because it addresses the scale problem precisely.

The residences, one to three bedrooms, offer a full or partial kitchen and a washer-dryer, which changes everything for a large family or a long stay. The poolside villas, exclusive to Reserve guests, add access to a private pool.

What travellers complain about

The score sits at 3.9 out of 5 across more than ten thousand six hundred reviews. For a Grand Hyatt, that is a signal, and the gap between promise and experience is the dominant theme of the comments.

Three complaints recur constantly. Service, described as distant by part of the clientele. Crowds: pools and beach fill early in the morning, loungers run short, and so do towels on some days. And the daily cost, again.

Against that, nobody disputes the quality of the facilities, the beauty of the site, the breadth of the offering or the cleanliness. This is a very fine hotel that comes with an instruction manual.

Construction on Cable Beach until 2029

This needs saying plainly, because few sellers do. On 12 February 2026, Baha Mar broke ground on a seven-hundred-million expansion on the former Melia site, about a dozen acres west of the SLS, designed by Foster and Partners. The project calls for 345 rooms, 77 residences, a spa, four restaurants and a large event space, targeted for 2029.

In practice: an active construction site neighbours Cable Beach for the next several years. It does not abut the Grand Hyatt, but it is there. Your advisor can pinpoint where the work stands at the time of your departure.

Who this address suits

It suits families who want an included water park and a kids club, travellers who like choice and activity, casino and golf players, and those who step up to the Reserve level to escape the crowd.
