The contrast with downtown is a few minutes of driving: Junkanoo Beach, pressed against the cruise pier, fills the moment ships dock, while here loungers find takers without a scramble most mornings.

Three freshwater pools round out the beach. The main one carries the Sip and Dip, a bar with submerged stools, and another keeps a volleyball net permanently strung. Fourteen, and what it means

Do the arithmetic before you go: on a four-night stay badly placed in the week, the real offering shrinks fast to the buffet. Over seven nights, everything opens up. No major renovation has been documented in more than a decade, and it shows. Travellers report dated furniture, rust-spotted hangers, too few mirrors in the bathrooms, awkward vessel sinks. The Wi-Fi, though included, weakens in some rooms. Elevators break down. Corridors carry sound.
