COMFORT SUITES PARADISE ISLAND

The Comfort Suites sits against Atlantis, and that is its entire reason for being. Registered guests here receive a daily wristband that opens the Aquaventure water park, the beaches and the aquariums of the giant next door, without paying the room rate of a resort that size.

The property holds 223 suites, all junior format, with a full American breakfast served every morning. It has no beach and no waterslide of its own: the pool is modest, there is a single restaurant, and most of the day happens across the road.

That is an excellent calculation for some families and a disappointment for others. The difference comes down to a few precise details, better known before booking than discovered on arrival.

What the wristband actually opens

The arrangement between the two properties is real and generous. Every day of your stay you get full access to Aquaventure: the slides, including the famous Mayan Temple with its tunnel through the shark lagoon, the Power Tower, the pools, the lazy river. You also get the Atlantis beaches, the aquariums and The Dig, and you can move freely around the site to shop or eat.

One advantage cruise visitors do not have: your wristband is guaranteed daily. The day passes sold to ship passengers regularly sell out. Yours do not.

The three limits to know

First limit, the one that spoils the most stays: access ends at eleven o'clock on departure day. It begins at three o'clock on arrival day. A guest whose flight leaves in the evening therefore has no final park day, unless they buy a pass from Atlantis. Settle this with your advisor at 1 866 628-6241 when choosing your flights: sometimes an entire vacation day rides on it.

Second limit: nothing charges to the room. Atlantis guests can put purchases on their folio. You cannot. Plan on a credit card or mobile payment for every meal, drink and purchase across the way.

Third limit: the wristband opens the facilities, not the paid content. Meals, drinks, Dolphin Cay, the casino and ticketed activities remain at your expense, exactly as they would for an Atlantis guest.

The daily ritual

Wristbands are collected each morning at the Atlantis Adventures desk, usually between eight thirty and four thirty, with government photo identification. It is quick, but it is daily, and several travellers find it tedious, especially with young children straining to go.

Our tip: send one adult for the wristbands while the rest of the family eats breakfast. The chore disappears.

The rooms, without varnish

Every unit is a renovated junior suite, four people maximum, entirely non-smoking, with one king bed or two doubles. The Island View category adds the view. Differentiation stops there: this is a single-product hotel, built for sleeping and breakfast.

Recent reviews flag maintenance problems it would be dishonest to hide: failing air conditioning, plumbing trouble, damp and odours in some corridors, worn furniture. Management is described as slow to respond. Front-line staff, by contrast, are regularly thanked in the comments.

The overall score sits at 3.9 out of 5 across more than three thousand four hundred reviews. That is fair for the category, provided you know what you are buying.

Eating on site

Crusoe's covers all three meals, and children eat free there with a paying adult, which matters on a family stay. The Bamboo Lounge, a pool bar with in-water service and a lobby bar round things out. The American breakfast buffet is included in the rate, as are two bottles of water per room each day.

Fees and conditions

The hotel applies daily per-person fees payable on site, on top of Bahamian taxes, and takes a security deposit at arrival. Published amounts differ between sources: have your advisor confirm them before departure. Wi-Fi and parking are free.

Check-in requires twenty-one, except for families with children, who are welcome.

Who this address suits

It suits families who want Aquaventure every day while keeping room in the budget for meals and excursions, stays of five nights or more where the wristband ritual dissolves, and pragmatic travellers who treat a room as a place to sleep.

It suits less well anyone who wants resort comfort, a beach outside the door, or the ability to sign everything to the room. Those travellers are better served directly in one of the Atlantis towers, at the Coral or the Reef, or in a true all-inclusive such as the Warwick.
